“George Bush doesn’t care about black people.” Those were the words uttered by Kanye West and…directed at the former President George Bush. Those seven words shocked the world. They were uttered at a time when New Orleans was submerged under water. The city and other parts of the coastal areas were in turmoil from Hurricane Katrina. The areas that were hit hardest were predominately black and very poor.
The government was poor to respond and as a whole was ill prepared for a disaster such at this. So when the grumblings started and Kanye later made his comment it shocked and angered some.
Just recently former president Bush released a book in which he cited the comment from Kanye was extremely hurtful and I have read where some have said Bush needs to get over it. Not sure how many times blacks have been told that and responded with anger and fury. But Kanye made an insensitive remark about something he really wasn’t in a position to speak on. And though shocking…many choose to believe the worst and no one really spoke out or in Bush’s defense.
Yet no white musicians have accused President Obama for not liking white people when he responded very slowly to the oil spill in the gulf where whites were predominately affected. Guess its more of the age old double standard.
